Today's discerning homeowners seek far more than visually appealing interiors; they expect thoughtfully designed environments that seamlessly integrate aesthetics, functionality, craftsmanship, and long-term value. In 1999, Essentia Environments was founded on a conviction that most people in the industry had accepted as an unsolvable problem: that the traditional model of design and build, with its chain of handoffs from designer to contractor to vendor to maker, was fundamentally broken.
Every translation diluted the original intent. Every handoff added a margin, a delay, a point at which the creative vision could be lost. Rather than work within that system, Essentia built a different one entirely.

Twenty-seven years later, it is the only firm in India that designs, manufactures, executes and retails as one integrated institution. Design studio, manufacturing facility and experience centres operate under a single leadership, across 150,000 sq ft of integrated infrastructure in Gurugram, with a team of over 800 professionals. The model that seemed contrarian in 1999 has become the firm’s most formidable asset.
“The milestones that matter to us are not the awards or the recognition, though we are grateful for both,” says Hardesh Chawla, Founder and CEO. “They are the moments the model proved itself.
The first developer who trusted us with an entire tower. The client who came back for their third home. The day we realised we had built something that could not easily be replicated.”
Where Design Intent Survives
In most design and build practices, the original creative vision is subject to reinterpretation at every stage. A drawing leaves the designer’s desk and passes through a contractor, a vendor, a maker, each one a step further from the intent it began with. At Essentia, that chain does not exist.
“A space is only finished when nothing in it is accidental,” says Monica Chawla, Co-Founder and Creative Director. “Every material, every proportion, every relationship between light and surface has been considered. That level of resolution is only possible when the people making the decisions are also the people making the object. The moment you separate the two, you start making compromises you cannot even see.”
This philosophy extends to how the firm evaluates every material and finish: not only for immediate aesthetic impact but for how it will perform, age and feel over decades. Luxury, in this framing, is not defined by excess. It is defined by thoughtful resolution and enduring quality.

Manufacturing as a Creative Advantage
Essentia’s facility produces furniture, millwork, doors, wardrobes, vanities, wall panels, soft furnishings, stone work and metal finishes entirely in-house. Approximately 95 percent of the manufactured range is India-made, reinforcing both operational control and a deep commitment to domestic craft. What competitors must source from multiple vendors, Essentia holds within one organisation, under one quality standard.

This manufacturing depth also carries a natural sustainability dividend. Fewer supply chain intermediaries mean less transportation, less material waste, and fewer of the inefficiencies that accumulate when multiple external parties are coordinating the same project. Technology, including AI-assisted tools for documentation, visualisation and project coordination, supports the process without replacing the human judgment that design at this level demands.
The Next Chapter
With over a thousand delivered projects across UHNI residences, developer fit-outs and corporate campuses, Essentia is now scaling the model nationally. Essentia Home, the group’s design products and retail vertical, operates experience centres across Gurugram, Delhi and Mumbai, with Hyderabad opening in 2027 and a broader metro expansion underway. In 2026, Essentia Home made its international debut at Milan Design Week, a signal of the firm’s ambitions beyond India.
The growth trajectory points toward institutional scale. The company is structured for a Series A fundraise and an IPO by 2031, with a mandate that goes beyond incremental expansion. “We are not trying to be the largest design firm in India,” says Hardesh. “We are building the most complete one. An institution that combines creative excellence, manufacturing strength and execution capability under one name, and stands behind every project it delivers.” Twenty-seven years in, that institution is already built. What comes next is the question of how far it can travel.
