Mered Unveils 404-Unit Residential Project on Al Reem Island

MERED launches the second phase of Riviera Residences on Al Reem Island, Abu Dhabi, featuring 404 homes, 65,000 sq. ft. of amenities and landscaped gardens. Construction is scheduled to begin by the end of 2026.

UAE-based real estate developer MERED has launched the second phase of Riviera Residences, a waterfront residential development on Al Reem Island within Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM). The project will comprise 404 residential units, including apartments, villas and a penthouse, with construction scheduled to begin by the end of 2026. Designed by Swiss architectural practice Herzog & de Meuron, Riviera Residences Phase 2 draws inspiration from Abu Dhabi’s pearl-diving heritage. Its architectural design incorporates custom-made façade elements inspired by mother-of-pearl, alongside a 30-metre-long, three-dimensional sand-printed lobby installation, bespoke glass panels and selected interior finishes. The residences will feature private balconies or terraces, connecting indoor living spaces with the surrounding landscape and waterfront.

The development will offer more than 65,000 sq. ft. of resort-style amenities, including swimming pools, spa and wellness facilities, indoor and outdoor fitness spaces, a padel court, residents' lounges and children's play areas. A waterfront promenade featuring cafés, restaurants and retail outlets will further complement the residential community.

Landscaping forms a significant part of the development's design. Inspired by Mediterranean coastal gardens, the project will feature approximately 300 trees and palms, more than 7,000 sq. m. of planted surfaces and over 60 plant species and varieties. Three themed gardens, named Sea Pearl Garden, Energy Garden and Bloom Orchard, will provide spaces for relaxation, wellness and family activities.

The landscape will incorporate aromatic plants such as rosemary, thyme and lavender, alongside flowering species and citrus trees. UAE-native and climate-adapted plants will complement the Mediterranean-inspired greenery. Drip irrigation, automated controls and weather sensors will support water management, while a one-kilometre walking path will connect the landscaped areas.

Michael Belton, CEO of MERED, said the development combines international architectural expertise with Abu Dhabi's heritage and waterfront character. He added that the second phase will extend the company's vision of creating a distinctive residential destination.

Meanwhile, enabling works at Riviera Residences Phase 1 have been completed, with construction progressing towards its scheduled completion in the third quarter of 2029. The developer confirmed that all units released during the first phase's pre-launch campaign sold out in the fourth quarter of 2025.
