Smeg Warming Drawers Offer Dough Proofing and Slow Cooking

Smeg expands its kitchen appliance range with multifunctional warming drawers featuring dough proofing, low-temperature cooking, food dehydration, yoghurt fermentation and defrosting, combining digital controls with streamlined designs for contemporary kitchens.

Italian appliance brand Smeg has expanded its kitchen portfolio with a new collection of multifunctional warming drawers designed for modern homes, built-in kitchens and entertaining spaces. Moving beyond conventional food warming, the appliances support a range of cooking and preparation tasks, offering greater flexibility for home cooks and hosts.

The drawers operate across a temperature range of 30°C to 85°C, enabling functions such as dough proofing, low-temperature cooking, food dehydration, and yoghurt fermentation and defrosting. Dedicated settings for warming cups and plates also make the appliances suitable for coffee stations and dining areas, helping homeowners prepare and serve food and beverages more efficiently.

The collection is designed to support different stages of meal preparation, from proofing dough and gently cooking ingredients to maintaining food at a suitable temperature before serving. These capabilities position warming drawers as multifunctional kitchen appliances rather than accessories used exclusively to keep dishes warm.

Karen Olle, director of marketing at SMEG USA, describes the warming drawer as an important addition to a high-performance kitchen. She highlights its ability to support baking preparation, slow cooking, food warming and coffee service, alongside technology intended to simplify everyday use.

The appliances feature a handleless push-pull opening mechanism and a Digi Touch LED display for temperature adjustment. Their integrated design supports a clean, streamlined appearance, allowing the drawers to coordinate with built-in ovens and surrounding cabinetry.

Smeg offers the new range in 24-inch and 30-inch widths. Finish options include stainless steel from the Professional Collection, Neptune Grey from the Linea collection and panel-ready models that can blend with customised kitchen cabinetry.

The collection is priced between US$1,499 and US$1,599 in the United States. Although Smeg USA has announced an international rollout, availability of these specific multifunctional models in Australia remains unconfirmed.

Smeg Australia already offers a separate range of warming and reheat drawers with functions including plate and cup warming, defrosting, reheating and dough proofing. The existing products provide similar preparation and serving benefits for households seeking integrated kitchen appliances.

With multifunctionality, precise temperature controls and coordinated finishes, Smeg’s latest warming drawers reflect a broader approach to kitchen design in which appliances combine practical performance with seamless integration into contemporary interiors.
